The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, January 10th, for it’s regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 38 members and four visitors in attendance. Lion Lee Graham was responsible for the program and he spoke about his year in "Puncher football."Mr. Graham's records go back to 1955 when the first detailed statistics were kept. He said there are a few blanks in the next few years, around 1957-1958.The stats for this year are very interesting. Some are:We had the ball 612 times to our opponents' 505.We averaged 9.3 yards per carry or play.In 15 games, we only fumbled seven times, and had two passes intercepted.51 times, our opponents turned the ball over to us.We had 84 rushing touchdowns to our opponents' 13.17 passing TDs to 10 by our opponents. We scored 717 points this season with over 450 of those in the first half. One interesting fact - according to Coach Paul Smith, this group of players went 0-10 in the seventh grade and 2-8 in the eighth grade. The club’s next meeting will be held next Tuesday, January 17th, at noon at Zavala’s. The program chairman will be David Hanscheck. The Mason Lion’s Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
