Daughters of the Republic of Texas Meeting

The Heart of Texas Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will hold its next meeting on Monday, February 14. Their meeting room is located in the 100 block of North College Street, Brady, Texas (center door).The meeting will begin at 4:00 PM with a program by Vice President Shirley Shumate. She will present a tour of the “Old Spiller Graveyard”, a cemetery in southeast McCulloch County near Voca. The slide presentation will also include commentary about the Spiller Family. The Spillers were one of the earliest families to settle in McCulloch County after it was created by Texas’ Sixth Legislature in 1856. A descendant and local historian, Wayne Spiller, compiled three volumes of the Handbook of McCULLOCH COUNTY HISTORY. After the presentation, refreshments will be served. The regular business meeting will follow. DRT meetings are always open to the public. Visitors are encouraged as are inquiries regarding membership and association.
