Rain.Sleet.Snow.Hail.Freezing rain.Icy fog.Icicles.Temperatures below 30.And that was just Sunday. What a day.A typical Winter’s day in the Hill Country.Perhaps a good omen.Perhaps we’ll have a typical Spring.Whatever that is.And a typical Summer.Which is NOT 100+ degrees for 90 days. With no rain.NOT.Spring already feels springier.Wetter.Greener.And it’s not even Spring.Bulbs are blooming anyway.Snowbells.Daffodils.Grape hyacinth.Flowers on the quince.Weeds growing.Still, it’s February. The bridge from Winter to Spring. From Christmas to Easter. From New Years to St. Patrick’s Day.February.Known for hosting Valentine’s Day.And for being shorter than all the other months. No insecurity there.February, short and stout, struts its stuff.Enticing.Encouraging.Promising something else on the other side.Just like a bridge.February holds the keys to Spring.Every time.Originally it was the month of expiation.According to Trusty Webster. And Romans held a festival of purification on February 15.Bet that was fun.Hmmm.Between atonement and purifying, it’s no wonder they made it a short month. As for March…well…Let’s cross that bridge when we get to it.That’s Mason.
