The Mason Punchers started their playoff run with their Bi-District game Friday in Ingram against the D’Hanis Cowboys. The game would start with Mason exploding out to an early lead as they led at the end of the first quarter 14-5. The second quarter pace would change as it became a much more physical game with both teams trying to tighten up on defense. The Cowboys would rely on free throws to close the gap while the Punchers outside shooting provided most of the second quarter points and would enter half time with a lead of 22-15. The third quarter would be an aggressive attack by both team’s offenses with the Punchers continuing great outside shooting and the Cowboys driving the lane and getting to the free throw line. The final period would come down to a final desperation of scoring by both teams with D’Hanis trying to make a comeback and the Mason boys trying to hold on to the lead. The Punchers would prove to be too much and the final score would be 55-41.The Area round game would be a hike for the home town boys as they would travel all the way to Tilden to take on the La Villa Cardinals who would be looking for some revenge from football season. The Punchers knew La Villa would come out with a lot of energy and matched everything the Cardinals could throw at them. Mason would show off their passing skills as they dished out twelve assist in the first half alone. The first quarter would end 17-8 and the second quarter ended with the Punchers leading 33-20. The Puncher’s offense would keep rolling in the second half with great cuts to the basket and more assist dished off after strong drives to the basket. The Cardinals would pick up their pace on offense as well hitting some key outside shots and keeping the game close. The game would end 59-53 and the Punchers would advance on to the Quarter Finals to face the Sabinal Yellowjackets on Tuesday at Kerrville Tivy High School. If Mason wins they will return to the Regional Tournament and play in New Braunfels on Friday at 12:00 p.m. against the winner of Shiner and Mumford.
