The Mason Punchers Baseball team welcomes two new Baseball Coaches! The head coach is Brian Rasberry. He grew up in Wall and played baseball for Angelo State University. The assistant coach is our own Michael McLeod. These coaches bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to our baseball program. We are excited about the numbers of players that have come out to play. At this time we have enough boys to have Varsity and JV teams. The first home game was against Junction. With the basketball boys still in the play-offs, the Punchers fielded a pretty young team. Through mist, heavy dew, and scattered showers, the faithful baseball fans hunkered under umbrellas and sat in cars to cheer on the boys. After a little slow start and some first home game jitters by the Punchers, the Junction boys were able to jump out to a 4 run lead. After the first inning, the Punchers settled down and Junction didn’t cross the plate the rest of the game. The home boys scored 1 run in the 4th. The Punchers rallied in the bottom of the 5th inning to put 9 more runs on the board. Several of the players had big hits with runners in scoring position. The score at the end of the 5th was Mason 10 Junction 4. With Junction sending 4 batters to the plate in the top of the 6th, the Punchers came out in the bottom with 4 more runs scoring. Due to the mercy rule, the score at that point was Mason 14 Junction 4; the game was called with Mason chalking up their first win of the season!Harper will be in Mason on March 6 playing the Varsity and JV teams. The Varsity team will be playing in the Mill Pond Classic in San Saba starting March 8. The first game will be that Friday morning. Over Spring Break, the Punchers will be traveling to Sonora, Harper, and Johnson City. The Johnson City game will be Friday the 16th and will be the first District game of the season. The next home game after Harper will be March 23 against Medina.Come out and show your support by cheering on the Boys of Spring.
