Preseason Polls Like Punchers
Wednesday, July 23, 2008 • Posted July 23, 2008

The high school football preseason polls were released this month and much to the delight of the Mason faithful, our Punchers are viewed as a preseason favorite.

The preseason polls have Region 4 District 29 rolling out in the following order. 1.) Mason 2.) Eldorado 3.) Junction 4.) Christoval 5.) Iraan County 6.) Rocksprings 7.) Menard.

The general concensus among sportwriters is that Mason will be a much improved team due to the fact that they are returning 18 starters, including seven salty offensive linemen. Mix in a linebacking corps that dealt out over two hundred plus tackles last year along with a stable of speed merchants that sport forty times in the mid fours and voila, you have a pretty darn good team!

The Punchers also made their mark in the state wide Class 1A top 30 poll coming in as a potential dark horse at #29.

Class 1A saw several 2A power houses drop down to Class 1A this year including last years 2A Champion Canadian, which will make any run through the playoffs a difficult road to hoe. Teams to keep your eye on in Region 4 would be #9 Chilton #14 Shiner #20 D’Hannis and#28 Falls City. Also note that our first opponent of the year Iraan is ranked at #18.

The Clas 1A preseason poll rolls out in the following order. 1.) Maud 2.) Sundown 3.) Canadian 4.) Alto 5.) Roscoe 6.) Nazareth 7.) Cayuga 8.) Itasca 9.) Chilton 10.) Mart 11.) Boles 12.) Stratford 13.) Archer City 14.)Shiner 15.) Mount Enterprise 16.) Sunray 17.) White Deer 18.) Iraan 19.) Tenaha 20.) D’Hannis 21.) Windhorst 22.) DeLeon 23.) Collinsville 24.) Munday 25.) Morton 26.) Quanah 27.) Falls City 28.) Big Sandy 29.) MASON 30.) Evant.

Many have viewed dropping down to Class 1A as our panacea. As my dear old dad used to tell me “be carefull for what you wish for. “ As you can see Class 1A is starting to look like the Pacific Ocean. It’s broad, it’s deep and there are plenty of sharks in the water. Just to give you an idea . Number one Muad is already in the process of signing three players to TCU.
