St. Patrick was actually British. Then kidnapped by invading Irish and kept as a slave in Ireland. Then escaped back to Britain. Then later returned to Ireland as a devout Christian. He died March 17, 461 A.D.And to this day, he is one of the most well-known saints.St. Patrick’s Day resonates with people around the world.Even if they aren’t Irish.Or Christian. It’s one of the longest-running parades in Montreal, Canada.Maybe the color green makes us want to celebrate.Green being the color for healing the heart. And the color of Spring.Fertility.New growth.Hope.Rebirth.Parades and celebrations are held in America from Montana to Minnesota.Las Vegas to Savannah, Georgia.New Orleans to Chicago.Philadelphia to San Francisco. And of course, the very Irish Boston. They’ve been parading there in honor of St. Patrick since 1737. Green is good.Green tea.A green card.Green beans.A greenbelt.Greenhouse.Leafy greens.Green is easy on the eyes.Lucky for us, Nature abounds in green.Except during a drouthy summer. But even then, live oaks and prickly pear carry on.Green is positive; a go.We like getting the green light. And greenbacks too.As someone once said:“Rich or poor, it’s good to have money.”Happy St. Patrick’s Day.Go green! That’s Mason.Renee Walker is an author, poet, and real estate broker on the square www.reneewalkerwriterpoet.com
