Mason Falls Short to Harper
Wednesday, March 14, 2012 • Posted March 14, 2012

After a weeks practice with most of the team, the Varsity and JV Punchers took on the Harper Longhorns. The Mason fans braved the howling winds during these games instead of the misty rain at the last game. Austin Trip took the mound for the first time this season. In the top of the first inning, the Longhorns were able to put 3 runs on the board off 3 hits. The Punchers, on the other hand, only sent 4 to the plate with 1 walk and no runs. The second inning for the Punchers was better as Harper only scored 1 run. In the bottom half, 8 batters went to the plate for the home boys but only 2 runs crossed the plate. The next 2 innings, the Punchers were able to keep the Longhorns from scoring, while putting 5 runs across the plate. Hunter Kunc came in to pitch in the top of the 5th. Harper gets 2 runs in the 5th and 6th as well as one more in the 7th. Unfortunately the Punchers couldn’t get their bats going the rest of the game. The final score, Mason 7 Harper 9. The JV then started their game. Chucky Martinez started the game for the Punchers JV on the mound with Ryan Wartenbach coming into the game in relief. Harper jumped out to a 3 to 1 lead in the first inning. Mason was only able to score 1 more run and when time was called, Harper had won the game 10 – 2. Due to the rain over the weekend the San Saba Tournament was cancelled. The Varsity will travel to Sonora for a double header Monday March 12. Wednesday Mar 14, they will play Harper again but this time in Harper at 1:00. Friday March 16 they will travel to Johnson City for the first District Game. Hope to see you there.
