One Killed, Three Injured in Thursday Accident

Austin Garrett, 15, of Mason was killed and three other youngsters critically injured Thursday afternoon in an automobile accident on Highway 29, approximately 11 miles west of Mason. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Garrett was a passenger in a 1987 Toyota Forerunner that appeared to have had a blow-out at 4:35 p.m. that sent it into a broadside skid. It rolled off the road through a ditch and through a fence before striking rocks and a tree. The roof of the vehicle came off during the crash and all the occupants were ejected. The driver of the vehicle, Michael Hanscheck, 16, was sent to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. Jessica Hanscheck, 13, and Courtney Hanscheck, 10, were both sent to Dell Children's Hospital in Round Rock.The DPS said no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt. Funeral Services for Austin Garrett were held Sunday afternoon.Donations for the Hanscheck family are being accepted at Sassy Chique.
