This letter is in response to two letters in last week's paper regarding women's reproductive issues. That old homily that women should keep their legs crossed just infuriates me. How about men should keep their zippers zipped. If all life is sacred why do we have so many people facig execution on Death Row? Aren't their lives sacred? How about young babies that die from inadequate health care due to lack of insurance - aren't their lives sacred? How about the innocent pregnant women and babies killed in Afghanistan and euphemistically called "collateral damage" - - aren't ther lives sacred? Why isn't there a hue and cry over the deaths of all these sacred lives as loud as the ones over aborted fetuses? Is it because some lives aren't considered sacred because of their religion or the color of their skin, therefore considered to be "other" and "alien." There seems to be limits on the sacredness of life for some. So who is going to determine whose lives are sacred? What about the poor 13 year old being raped and then being raped again by the state by being forced to carry that "sacred blessing" to term? Rick Santorum states he is against abortion totally, but when it came to his wife, abortion was ok. When he was asked about this from a man whose wife also needed an abortion for health reasons, Santorum stated that he was against it because he "didn't know the man's wife." Oh, the hyprocrisy. The last time religion and politics were joined, it was called the Dark Ages and for good reason. The church put to death many innocents, some for the "sin" of merely possessing a written copy of the Bible. It was all about political power and keeping people subjugated and believing in only one dogma. The war on women is no different.I leave you with a quote from Mr. Conservative himself, Barry Goldwater."The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom... I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in 'A,' 'B' and 'C,' and 'D.' Just who do they think they are?... I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of "conservatism."I couldn't have said it any better.
