Mason High School 2012 Academic Competition

21 students from MHS will advance to regional competition as the result of their placement in recent District 27-A contests held in Medina. To make the regional contest, which will be held April 20th in Brenham, Texas, a student must have finished in one of the top three positions of a given category. The fourth place finisher advances as an alternate. First place teams also advance.

All students who finished between first and sixth place earned points and awards for their achievements. Mason was first in the Spring Academic Meet scoring 374 points. Center Point finished second with 195 points.

District competition started in February when CX debaters finished 1st and 4th, scored 30 points toward the Spring Meet and advanced to State. CX debaters included: Rio Schmidt and Claudia Canfield, Matt Banner and Dyllan Hofmann, Coby Velez and Drigo Martinez, and Luiz Castillo. Rio and Claudia won the district CX Championship, advanced five rounds at state, and qualified for state scholarships. Matt and Dyllan finished district as alternates.

Informative: Lorri Ann Drazan 1st, Dyllan Hofmann 3rd, Coby Velez 5th LD Debate: Price Ruffin 2nd, Forrest Lingle 4th, David Hill 5th

Lit Crit: Gideon Gonzales 1st, Elena Ramon 2nd, Amanda Hudson 3th, Claudia Canfield 6th

Number Sense: Price Ruffin 6th

News: Leret Hemphill 1st, Abby Nash 3rd, Paris Jones 4th

Persuasive: Star Longoria 1st, Luiz Castillo 4th

Poetry: Coby Velez 5th

Prose: Star Longoria 1st, Staci Habecker 3rd, Catelyn Felts 5th

Ready Writing: Gideon Gonzales 2nd

Chemistry: Price Ruffin 1st

Social Studies: Ethan McKinney 4th

Spelling Team: Damian Del Toro and Kaitlyn Cavness
