Iva Mae Swinford

Iva Mae Keith Sturdivant Swinford, 80, of Lubbock, after many years of illness went peacefuly to meet her Lord March 21, 2012. Iva was born December 6, 1931, in Mason County to Archie and Winnie Wingfield Keith. Iva attended school in the old schoolhouse, then married Leonard J. Sturdivant on June 8, 1948. While working on the Moneyhon Dairy they had a daughter, Shirley Sturdivant. In 1953, they moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, where a son, Lonnie Sturdivant was born in 1956. Iva was a housewife and baked pies for her sister Mildred Cranfil’s cafe. She then took medical training to be a nurse. Iva & Leonard divorced in 1961, and later, on February 20, 1966, she married Joseph Swinford. In 1969, they and her parents moved to Mason. Joe became janitor for the courthouse and Iva nursed at Anna Lee’s Nursing home.They lived mostly in the Camp Air and Katemcy area. In 1980, they moved to Cabot, Arkansas, to be with her daughter & family, where Joe died in 1981. Then she moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, then Weatherford, OK, and back to Hobbs, NM. Iva loved to do crafts, arts and crochet. She won many awards at fairs and was a published poet. Iva has one song published, “The Streets Of Gold." Iva was three times a Noble Grand of the Lubbock Rebekah Lodge #321, and a current member of the Wingfield Socity. Iva was preceded in death by her parents; Grandparents, Will & Addie Keith; a sister, Mildred Cranfil Bradshaw, Brother, Robert (Sonny) Keith; two brother in laws; Eldon Cranfil & Eldon Cotton; and a grandson, Johnny Sturdivant. Survivors are; daughter, Shirley Sturdivant of Lubbock, Tx.; son, Lonnie Sturdivant, grandson, Seth and wife Stephanie Sturdivant of Mary Neal, Tx.; Grandsons, Steven Wilkins; and Daniel Wilkins and wife Susan of New Braunfels, Tx., and great grandchildren; Brady & Britany Wilkins of New Braunfels. Pallbearers were Daniel Wilkins, Steven Wilkins, Seth Sturdivant, Allan Cotton, and Billy Bradshaw. A graveside service was held March 26, 11:00 a.m. at the Cavness Cemetery, Mason County, Texas. Agape Funeral Home of Lubbock and Mason Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements. Thank you to everyone who attended or sent anything.
