To the voters in Precinct 4 and the residents of Mason County, I am withdrawing as a candidate for Commissioner of Precinct 4. When I decided that I would run for the office, I was unaware that Stephen Mutschink was to be appointed to that office to finish Eldon Kothmann's unexpired term and would himself be a candidate. I have been to several meetings of the Commissioner's Court since Stephen was appointed and am impressed with how he has "hit the ground running." He has taken over the project Eldon started to find the most economical and long-term solution to replacing the hangers at the airport that were destroyed by a storm, and has done a good job of presenting available options to the court. I feel that trying to replace someone who has started out showing he is capable of doing a good job is not in the best interest of Mason County at this time. I also feel that the year's experience he will have on the court by the time of the general election in November will be an asset to the county.

To those of you who asked me to be a candidate for this job and those of you who have supported me since, please know that I did not arrive at this decision easily. I thank you for your confidence and support and pray that you are understanding of the decision I have made.

Lester Kothmann
