A Special Day at the Library!
Wednesday, April 25, 2012 • Posted April 25, 2012

Saturday, March 31st was a very special day at the Library. In addition to the Friends of the Library Book Sale there was STORYTIME in SPANISH and in English for all ages! Kica Berreles and Blanca Torres read to the children in Spanish and English and Katie Smith and Margaret Persky read in English.

In addition, three middle schoolers and two high school students shared their University Interscholastic League (UIL) poetry and prose presentations. Raegan Glentz brought the tardy student to life when she read “Marco Comes Late” by Dr. Seuss. Cason Dudney described “ MaCavity: The Mystery Cat “ from Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot, and Kayla Harwell presented “Hey Little Ant” by Phillip M. Hoose.

Staci Habecker delighted the audience with a humorous reading from “Girl Scout Uniform” by Jen Lancaster and a more sober piece from “Tongues of Fire” by Lee Smith. Star Longoria captivated the groups when she gave voice to Minnie and her famous pie in “The Help” by Kathryn Sockett. Star also read from “Define Normal” by Julie Ann Peter.

Later this month both Staci and Star will go to UIL Regionals in Brenham where we know they will continue to give impressive performances. We wish Staci and Star great success in the UIL Regionals.

Friends of the Library thank all of our readers for their participation in this event. They provided us an entertaining afternoon at the Library. We also appreciate Gay Nesloney and Vondell Jordan, the teachers who coach the UIL students.
