Dolly came, left some rain, and now our summer heat is back. Continue to pray for rain.

August starts the big birthday month. Wishes for a happy birthday go to Kenneth Durst on August 1st, Robert Grant Durst on August 2nd, Jolie Emma Parker (Jean Lyon’s grand daughter) on her first birthday on August 3rd, Jessica Bibb on August 4th, Jean Lyon and Leslie Cope on August 5th, Sam Jordan on August 6th and Josh Calhoun on August 7th. Start the month with a great celebration.

Joyce Mutschink reported that her Aunt Ellen is doing great, Carolyn Vater is home after her surgery, Dorothy Johnson is doing well with her rehab on her ankle. Sara Dixon is having another knee surgery on Wednesday. Keep John Ceynowa, Karan Watson and Tina Carter in your daily prayers.

Roger Jordan preached in the absence of Rev. Krause using the Gospel scripture from Matthew 6:19-21 and 24-34 about worry. Jesus is teaching that we are not to gather up for ourselves treasurers on earth where thieves break through and steal, but we are to gather up treasurers in heaven, for where your treasures is, there will your heart be also.

Most of us are not really affluent and we really have little to worry about financially. Worry is a natural tendency of humans but it makes no sense to worry about what may happen. So, put your trust in God so that spiritual things come first. We are called to be the salt and the light of the world, the flavor and example to the world. Focus on God and his teachings and where He leads in the way of righteous. Keep fear and anxiety out of our lives. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Live each day, trusting only in Him and be anxious for nothing.

Don’t worry about your life, what you shall eat, drink or about your body. Look at the birds, they don’t sow or reap and yet God keeps feeding them. “Are you not worth much more than they” (verse 26)?

Fear not, for God is with us. Focus on doing God’s work and our Christian walk. Meditate on God’s word. Seek comfort in the scriptures. Get busy being a blessing to someone. Worry does not solve any problems.

Focus on joy and what God has in store for you. Serve others. Keep your eye on the sparrow.
