Mason Junior High Tennis

Mason Junior High Tennis has been heating up the courts over the last several weeks. After winning 4th place at the Kerrville Team Tournament, Mason traveled to Copperas Cove Saturday March 31st with 30 players. Mason showed up to play with most of our players either advancing to the championship round, playing for third and fourth place, or consolation. Even though it was a long, early drive for us, the kids did an exceptional job.

On Wednesday, April 4th, Mason had a dual match with Fredericksburg Heritage. The dual was played in a team tournament format (first team to win 10 matches) and Mason was the winner by a score of 17-2. Playing for Mason that day were Jacob Harris, Jackson Chapman, Slade Townsend, Grant Sanders, James Schwertner, Coleman Swafford, Evan Dayton, Riley Pape, Justyn Tedder, Margaret Graves, Steeley Smith, Kendra Klaerner, and Cristina Mejia. This was a chance for some of our younger players to experience the team format and they did an outstanding job.

This year our District Tournament was a little later than normal which was good for us. Mason Junior High has 42 kids playing this year and all but 2 were able to play in the tournament on Thursday April 12th. Mason once again defended its District Championships in boys and girls by either playing each other in the championship round or for third and fourth place. On Friday April 20th and Saturday April 21st Mason once again traveled to Kerrville for their middle school invitational. There were some tougher schools represented but Mason put on a strong showing. The kids played with pride and never gave up.

Mason Junior High is home for its last two weekends of play for the season. On Friday April 27th and Saturday April 28th, Mason will be hosting its annual team tournament. Mason plays Friday afternoon at 3:30 versus San Saba and then again around 5:30 against a tough Fredericksburg team. Saturday’s playing times for Mason will be known after Fridays matches. Then on Friday and Saturday May 4th and 5th Mason will host its invitational tournament. I would like to take this time to thank all the parents and fans who have traveled to support all our junior high players. It is greatly appreciated and the kids and I love the constant encouragement. Please come out to the courts if you have time over the next two weekends and support the future of Mason Tennis.
