Fort Mason Continues 160th Anniversary
Wednesday, May 2, 2012 • Posted May 2, 2012

Work continues on the northwest room of the Officers' Quarters as a memorial to Wibby Shearer. Gene Zesch and his sister, Peggy Laverty, of Colorado, continue to update the pictures of twenty generals from Fort Mason, plus artifacts discovered around the old fort buildings.

Annual School Day at the fort is scheduled for Friday, May 18th, with a Confederate officer, Union officers from Fort Concho, games directed by members of Fort McKavett, a presentation by Tommy Koepke, plus docents describing fort life 160 years ago. The descriptions will include material from the diary of Mrs. Eliza Johnston and her three children at the fort during early 1857. Grades three through six plan to participate in this educational event.
