Democratic Convention
Wednesday, May 2, 2012 • Posted May 2, 2012

27 enthusiastic Democratic supporters met at the home and Kay and Dennis Evans Saturday, April 21 for the local convention. James Morris served as Chair and Carlene Brollier as Secretary. Robin Lee was selected as Delegate to the State Convention and James as Alternate.

A great surprise was the visit by Rachel Barrios – Os, candidate for State Chair.

Five resolutions were adopted and forwarded to the State Office:

1. Resolve that Texas repeal law requiring photo ID to vote

2. Resolve that Texas move to open primary system

3. Resolve that Texas condemn the decision of the US Supreme Court to remove limits on campaign donations.

4. Resolve that Texas repeal law requiring women to view sonogram of their fetus prior to abortion

5. Resolve to support Rachel Barrios – Van Os for Texas Democratic Party Chair

This is part of a letter received by Lynn Reichenau, Local Chair, from Ms. Barrios-Van Os about her visit:

"We then filled our gas tank up (again) and headed up to Mason County which was about 150 miles away. It was a very beautiful and enjoyable drive, with winding roads, hills and valleys. It was our last stop for the day and we arrived in Mason, Texas around 8:30 p.m., luckily their County Convention didn’t start until 7:00 p.m. When we walked into the meeting place which happened to be at the home of Kay and Dennis Evans, I was glad to see the Delegates working on their resolutions and fully participating in the political process. I was impressed with their political action and also with their large number of active Democrats in attendance. Thank you to Mason County Chair, Lynn Reichenau and to all of the Delegates for welcoming me at your County Convention. A big thank you to Kay and Dennis Evans for being such gracious hosts to this County Convention in their very warm and beautiful home. We returned back home in Austin late at night around 11:30 p.m. and boy was it a long day but it was a great day too. I truly enjoyed meeting all the good Democratic activists at each convention."
