Where did April go and what happened to “April showers bring May flowers”? I was so hopeful that April was going to be really wet. Now they’re saying May could be wet. We shall see. If it doesn’t rain soon, our Wilman Love grass will be dormant for another year. Okay, okay, let me steer myself back onto my “striving for eternal optimism” path………….I’m sure we will get substantial rain soon!

Last Saturday was the last day of the 12+hour Peacemaker Training, “Unity in the Church”, taught by Rev. Dr. Kathy Harrell. (Pictured above with her husband Jim Harrell) The Peacemaker Training works toward the goals of unity, stability, building qualified leaders of churches, and leading others to Christ. The course was an enjoyable and meaningful experience of learning, fellowship, sharing, and unity. Members from Art UMC and Trinity UMC attended the four day event and found it to be not only useful for congregations, but for family and daily living as well. Special thanks to Rev. Kathy for her time and expertise.

At this printing, Kristin Gleghorn will have already celebrated her birthday on the 1st of May…..hope you had a great day! Upcoming birthdays include Haddon Hudson on May 3rd and Lois Durst on the 7th. God bless you and may you each have a wonderful day.

As always, please continue prayers for our homebound and nursing home members and friends. Our service men and women continue to be in harm’s way, as evidenced by the recent loss of Staff Sgt. Joseph Fankhauser. Please pray for them and for the Fankhauser family.

Prayer requests continue for Sterling Jordan’s sister, Dorothy who has suffered another light stroke. JoAnn Coston from Trinity UMC has requested prayer for her Uncle, Marvin Grobe. Kristin Gleghorn reported that her husband Bobby’s Great Aunt, Porsha Walters passed away last Thursday. Please keep the Gleghorn and Walters’s family in your prayers. Our condolences and prayers also go to Sam Hoerster on the death of his mother, Genevieve H. Noren. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 3rd, at 2pm, Art UMC. Graveside service will be in the Art East Cemetery.

Pastor Cliff will be on the Kairos Prison Ministry Visit for several days this week. Please keep him and the Prison Team and staff in your prayers as they bring Christ’s love and forgiveness to all the incarcerated, their families, and those who work with them.

Please note that there will be a Faith & Finance Committee meeting on Monday, May 7th, at 6pm. The Art and Trinity United Methodist Women will have their Spring Luncheon at 12pm on Tuesday, May 8th at Joyce Mutschink’s home. All ladies are invited. The Mason Soup Kitchen will cook and package casseroles on Saturday, May 12th at the Mason ISD cafeteria from 8-11:30. If you would like to volunteer, please go to http://www.signupgenius.com for more information.

The District Meeting for our Annual Conference Lay Delegates will be Saturday, May 19th at St. Luke’s UMC in San Angelo.

Sunday was the 4th Sunday after Easter. Jesus prays to God for us in John 17:18. “As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” Jesus tells us in John 20:21, “As God has sent me, even so I am sending you”. We were blessed Sunday to have reports from the chair leaders of all the various committees and ministries of Art and Trinity UMC. Both churches are definitely responding to our Lord’s request.

The greatest hero of all times has gone before us, but our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is still with us through the Holy Spirit. He has left instructions for us until His return. How we respond to those instructions will determine our passage through the gateway to eternity.

Peace to all
