Young Life started in 1941 by a youth minister in Gainesville, Texas with a vision to reach out to high school students who had no interest in church. Young Life has grown into a worldwide ministry, and is now in Mason! The Young Life vision in Mason is to provide opportunities for every adolescent in Mason to meet Jesus and follow Him. It is a ministry built on adult volunteers in the community developing relationships with high school and junior high teens. Our aim is to love them unconditionally, and to introduce them to Jesus. Our goal is to get them into a church body surrounded by other loving adults.Young Life also seeks to show teens that following Jesus is anything but boring. As one of our leaders, who was in Young Life as a teen said, “Young Life really isn’t something that can be explained, it has to be experienced. Looking back I can say that my experiences with Young Life are some of my fondest high school memories.”

On April 23rd, we took a group of 16 teens along with 8 adults to Luckenbach, Texas for a Young Life Club. At the famous Luckenbach Dance Hall we met up with other Young Life groups from all over the Hill Country and our kids got their first Young Life experience. It was loud, it was crazy and it was a lot of fun! But most importantly, it let kids experience a Jesus who loves them for who they are. We all had a great time and heard a positive message to take home with us. One of our teens, Kasey Stengel, even won a free trip to Young Life Camp in Colorado!!!

Every summer Young Life hosts teenagers from all over the world at their summer camps. We are planning to take a group of high school students to Young Life’s Frontier Ranch in early June. This is one of Young Life’s premier summer camps. It is nestled on the side of 14,197 ft Mt. Princeton in beautiful Buena Vista, Colorado. The views are amazing and the week is full of adventure, great food, fellowship and even moments of solitude that allow teens to reflect on their relationship with God. The tag line on every Frontier camp flyer says that this will be “the best week of your life.” It is an experience they will never forget, because it is in a place made just for them.

In order to help pay for this camp experience, Young Life is having a car wash on the south side of the square on May 12th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The kids will be accepting donations in return for shinning up headlights and scrapping spring bugs off your windshield and front grill. Bring your trucks, cars, golf carts, motorcycles, bikes, and riding lawn mowers! We will wash almost anything, and don’t forget to bring your wallet or checkbook. We are asking for donations to help our kids pay for their trip to camp. The total cost per camper is $500. There are 8 students already signed up, but we need help paying for camp. We also have a few more kids on a waiting list who would love the opportunity to go to camp. Please come out and support Young Life Mason, and help send a kid to camp!

If you are a teenager or parent of a teenager interested in learning more about Young Life or in reserving a spot to camp please call JW Harle, 214-957-7913.
