Punchers Report to Trainning Camp
Wednesday, July 30, 2008 • Posted July 30, 2008

TWO A DAYS!!! those three simple words mean only one thing. The 2008 Puncher football season is underway.

30 Varsity players and 30 Junior Varsity players will begin the gruelling task of Two A Day practices next week in preparation for the 2008 campaign. The buzz all over town and in the locker room is the news that the Punchers are the preseason favorite to win district 29. This is an absolute testement to the over all growth of our program.

With 60 players in the program, competion will be fierce for starting positions at both levels. Couple this with the fact that our seniors are now entering their third year in coach Joy’s system, lends when to deduce that the Punchers are about to make some serious noise!

However, senior linebacker and All West Texas selection Zach Nash will be the first to tell you that, preseason rankings do not mean didly if you can not back up the hype. When your picked to win the district, playing the Punchers will become the big game of the year for all of our opponents. There will be no soft games on this years schedule. Every game will be huge!

The Punchers will once again spend the next four weeks fine tuning their I-formation offense and 3-4 defense. Look for several new wrinkles in both packages. If you have a chance to attend one of the Two A Day practices pay close attention to our lineman. I see them as the catalyst to our success. They are flat out one of the most physically gifted group of players that we have seen in years. There is an old saying in football, “The glory boys get the touchdowns, but the lineman get the girls.” That may very well be the case with this group of horses!

TWO A DAY practices will run from August 4th until August 15th. Our first scrimmage will take place at the Puncherdome on Saturday August 16th at 10:00 a.m. against Ozona. The Puncher Club will once again have the consession stand open and will also have all of the new 2008 Puncher paraphenelia on hand. If you have not already purchased your Puncher Club membership this would be an ideal time to do so.

Please mark these important Puncher football dates on your calender for the month of August!
