Raggedy Cats To Play Free Concert at Marktplatz Kinder Halle on August 2

The Raggedy Cats will be giving a free concert at Marktplatz under the Kinder Halle Pavillion in Fredericksburg on Saturday, August 2, from 5 - 7pm. The public is cordially invited to come bring their lawn chairs, some refreshments, and listen to the music of the good ole days. The Raggedy Cats is Fredericksburg’s only 40’s swing and 50’s rock-n-roll band. The Raggedy Cats will be giving a second free concert this summer on Saturday, August 30, also at Kinder Halle. The public is invited.

The Raggedy Cats band members are:

Horst Klauser - band leader and saxophones. Horst became a journeyman woodwind instrument builder in Germany as a young teenager and apprenticed making clarinets. Horst not only learned to play the clarinet, but the saxophone as well. Actually, he learned to play all sizes of saxophones: baritone sax, tenor sax, alto sax, and soprano sax. As a young man, Horst played in GI camps and officers’ clubs all across Germany, France and Luxembourg. He later came to the United States and joined the U.S. Army where he played on military bases as a member of the 62nd Army Band. Horst retired to Fredericksburg and started a community band called the Polka Dots which had a 10 year duration. He later started a band called the Barons Creek Boys which then became The Raggedy Cats. Horst says that he eats, sleeps, and breathes music. Music is his passion. Horst and his wife, Rita, have been married for 40 years, and have a dog named Charlie.

Duncan Holmes - keyboard and vocalist. Duncan lives in Fredericksburg and is a travelling concert musician. Duncan has been playing piano since he was 3 years old. He began piano lessons at the age of 8. He attended the Maryland School for the Blind and won numerous music awards there. Duncan holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. He also holds a Master of Music Education Degree from University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. He is the pianist for the Hill Country Evangelical Free Church. He also plays regularly at the Hangar Hotel. His interests include the computer, old time radio shows, walking with his guide dog, Lucky, community theatre, and being with friends. Duncan likes almost any kind of music except “dirty country or heavy metal”. Duncan is married to Sharon, and they have a 16 year old daughter, Hannah, who will be a Jr. at FHS.

Gary Lachmiller - bass guitar and vocalist. Gary lives in Fredericksburg and drives a delivery truck for UPS. He has been with UPS for 34 years. Gary has been playing with bands since he was 20 years old. As well as bass guitar, he also plays the piano and lead guitar. Gary plays with the Praise Team for the Bethany Lutheran Church Contemporary Worship Services. He is married to Rozine, and his favorite pastimes are eating, sleeping, and playing music.

Hugh Patton - drums. Hugh is the owner of U-Name-It Services where he specializes in landscaping, lawn and garden and tree care. His business is a member of the Better Business Bureau. Hugh has been playing drums since the Beatles became popular in 1964. His favorite pastimes are billiards and chess. Hugh also plays with the Bill Smallwood Lone Star Swing Orchestra. He has played with several well known names in Austin including Up With People, the Threadgill Family, and Roky Erickson. Hugh and Charlotte make their home in the Kerrville area.

Beth Lewis - vocalist. Beth and her husband live outside of Fredericksburg and are options traders in the stock market. Beth is also a CPA and owned a tax practice in years past. She has also worked as a payroll and personnel director. Beth has been singing with a passion since she was a child. She participated in vocal groups in junior high, high school and college. As a teenager, she taught herself to play the guitar. She has been a soloist for weddings, funerals and other church services. Her interests include travelling, cooking, movies, speaking Spanish, and playing golf at Mason. She and her husband, Brance, love the country life and are the housekeepers for 4 cats.
