The Young At Heart Fundraiser, to benefit programs of the Mason County Senior Center, will once again have remarkable and unique items to be included in the Live Auction.
In addition to the astounding 7.1 carat Mason County topaz, with the distinctive Lone Star cut handcrafted by Wibby Shearer, this year’s event will also feature an out of print, autographed and framed print by Gene Zesch. Local jewelry designers Michele Smith, Lee and Linnda Graham, Toni Hurlbut and Nan Loeffler have all contributed original pieces to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Other items included in the auction list will be original artwork, including historic renderings by Laverne Lee and Kyle Martin. History buffs will want to preview author Scott Zesch’s article commemorating the 100th anniversary of Adina De Zavala’s siege of the Alamo, the first act of civil disobedience in the cause of historic preservation, which was published in the National Parks Journal CRM. Another item will be Zesch’s article in American History Magazine, with illustrations, based on his talks about Indian captives of Texas. Both of these periodicals have been signed by the author. For Sesquicentennial collectors, a unique one of a kind Laverne Lee painted Tee Shirt, depicting significant sites in the Mason community, will be up for bid, available here and nowhere else!
Other decorative items for the home include a large floral arrangement designed by The Petal Patch, a handcrafted table courtesy of John and Welda Armour and an oversized antique mirror. To warm the hearth and heart, there will be a historically commemorative throw from Riata and a patchwork lap quilt created by Doreen Cardenas (yes, Mason, cold temperatures will return!) along with wonderful beeswax candles in decorative holders, a combined donation from Beeswax Candle Co and Market Square. For gift giving, there will be a handmade pottery vase by Carol Kothmann, an antler pen and pencil set by Leslie Klaerner, handmade knife by Brad Kothmann and an all leather knapsack courtesy of the Boot Shop of Mason. And indulgences will be permitted with the array of bath & beauty products, the wine and dine certificates and the luscious and delicious homemade cakes and desserts!
Tickets are still available for the event to be held Saturday August 9th at 5 p.m. at the school cafeteria. Available from the Senior Center or Site Council members, the tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door and will include a delicious barbeque dinner, the Live Auction, door prizes and great community fellowship in “Caring for those who cared for us.”
