Due to the deadline for this article because of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, I will be brief and to the point.

The bats are flying in perfect style although they are still emerging a little before dark. On Thursday night this week they left the cave at 8:49 and on Friday at 8:37 P.M. Each night moves back a little earlier and soon it will be daylight when they start out for the evening.

At the beginning of the season and after about the middle of August they leave right at dusk or later. The reason is that we have about 1.6 million bats that come from Mexico to our cave and they will stay until they leave sometime in October. We also have about 3 million or so that come from other places to give birth in the cave around June 15th and they leave after their pups are flying and go back to their own colonies. That leaves just ours in the cave so they do not have to get in any hurry to get out. Next week I will go into grand detail about this event so that all will know that times of the emergences DO CHANGE during the season and will know to call the bat hotline (325-347-5970) for the current emergence time and any other information they may need.

With this all said, I bid you a wonderful week and can’t wait to see ya at the cave!!
