Naomi Elizabeth (Betty) Meyer, 78, of Rochelle, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012, in San Angelo.

A memorial service was held Friday, May 18, at 2 p.m., in the Rochelle Baptist Church in Rochelle.

Naomi was born in McCulloch County to Clarence James and Naomi Vera (Walker) Knox, Sr. She married Fred H. Meyer, Jr., Nov. 3, 1951, in San Antonio. After having been away for years, she moved back to Rochelle from San Antonio in 1984.

She was a member of the Rochelle Baptist Church and spent her time volunteering for numerous organizations including; the Rochelle School, Rochelle Cemetery Association, the Heart of Texas Country Music Association and Museum and was an officer in the Women’s Club of Texas. She had also written articles for the newspaper and, in her spare time, enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, crocheting and various craft work.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and a baby brother, Jerry Tol Knox.

She is survived by two sons, Michael W. Meyer and wife, Brenda, of San Antonio and Robert L. Meyer and wife, Monika, of New Braunfels; a brother, Jamie Knox, and wife, Mary Lou; three sisters,Yvonne McCain and husband, Murray, June Abbott and Beverly Dennis and husband, Ethan; a sister-in-law, Arlene Fahey of Johnson City, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
