Graham's Legacy Lives On
Wednesday, June 20, 2012 • Posted June 20, 2012

Sunday afternoon and early evening Mason turned out in force to honor and give thanks for the life of one of our finest, Lee Graham. A church filled to capacity with friends and family, laughed, cried, and remembered this man who gave so much to our community. The stories shared by those who spoke and the stories that remain untold, yet in the hearts of all who knew him, validate beyond doubt that this was a great man. His influence will long exceed his time among us and for that Mason will be a better place.

Later, the Puncher Dome was the venue for more remembrance. As we walked through the gate to the sound of Lee’s voice setting the stage for the state championship game last December, it seemed he was there, just as he had been for over forty years. In tribute to the man and his “Puncher Spirit”, fans cheered, laughed, and listened as Lee continued to be remembered. In closing, the voice of Lee Graham doing the post game wrap-up from the state championship game, filled the stadium. You could have heard a pin drop. His voice was noticeably weakened by his illness and the demands of that day but destiny had been fulfilled. It was almost prophetic when he said in closing,”Boys, it’s time to go home.”Almost on cue, the clouds darkened and rain drops gently caressed his friends as they left the stadium. It was as if he was saying thank you to us for being special to him….but that was Lee Graham.
