Wednesday, June 20, 2012 • Posted June 20, 2012

October promises to be a major month for the arts in Kerr County, with Plein Air (Open Air) painters descending on the Hill Country from around the nation for multiple workshops, exhibits and demonstrations. Kerr Arts & Cultural Center Executive Director Debbie Minns exclaims “It’s only June and already people seem to be getting very excited about all the events that KACC is sponsoring in October. Pre-registrations have been coming in virtually every day.”

One of the Plein Air events that is stirring great interest among Hill Country painters is the “Kerrville Outdoor Painters’ Event” from October 4th - 6th. Area painters will be able to enjoy working at a wide range of pre-selected locations, some on private property that has never been painted before. The event will also feature demonstrations by well-known Plein Air artists, daily receptions, “quick draw” contests, awards, and an opportunity to exhibit their work (subject to jurying) for almost a month as part of KACC’s Plein Air show from October 6th - November 3rd.

The “Kerrville Outdoor Painters’ Event” is open to any artist working in any medium who uses the “Plein Air” technique. Participating artists will work on location using surfaces that are stamped by event coordinators, and in order to participate artists must register and submit samples of their work to KACC. Registration before July 31st is $50; after that the fee is $60. Registration fees will be fully refunded if an applicant is not accepted. Spaces for this event are limited, and locations on private property will require special passes that will be issued on the day of the event.
