Gerry,

(in re: http://www.masoncountynews.com/news/article/53562),

Thanks for the exposition of EROEI…it’s a concept that needs to be known more widely.

As for alternative Energy Sources…and at the risk of being a somewhat broken record…let me again advocate "Biogas". This is a polite euphemism for "Methane", or "Sewer Gas"…the Fossil Kind is known by the marketing euphemism, "Natural Gas". These are all names for essentially the same thing. Everything that eats ,(and, therefore, poops!) is a potential source of Energy.

The Feedlots, the Landfill and the "Wastewater Treatment Facility"…all give off "Emissions"…which is yet another euphemism for "Methane". This Useable Fuel is currently simply "Vented to the Atmosphere" (euphemism for "Wasted"), contributing to the much maligned "Global Warming".

All that one must do is Capture this Gas…and refine it.(running it through an activated Carbon Filter, is one possibility, thus removing most of the Smell).

We have a Golden Opportunity to rejigger our current "Waste Water Treatment Facility", in order to Capture that Gas. Grants are available.

It’s not a Panacaea…It won’t solve all of our Energy Woes…but it would, perhaps, produce enough Electricity, for instance, to run our Water System…or Streetlights…thus freeing us from Spending the Money we now Spend on this Power, from elsewhere.

I encourage Everyone to Google "Biogas", and "Methane Digester"…to learn more.

Then join me, in calling for a Saner, and more Local Energy Solution.

Thanks,

Josef D. Pinter
