High School Registration Information
Wednesday, August 8, 2012 • Posted August 8, 2012

It’s that time again! Parents of Mason High School students will receive a packet in the mail next week, which includes high school registration information and necessary forms which need to be completed and returned to school on the day of registration. If there are any questions, staff members will be available to help you on the day of registration. Parents and students, please make sure you read all information carefully before signing, as there are some changes that have been made. Also, please note: some of the forms are printed on both the front and back of the pages. If you did not receive a registration packet, please call the school office as soon as possible. 347-1122 ext 223.

All students will register on Thursday, August 16th. Students must be in compliance with all dress code requirements. Students will turn in their registration forms, check out and cover their textbooks and have their school pictures made. Students taking dual credit classes will also fill out their Central Texas College registration forms. There will not be school pictures this year at registration. School pictures are scheduled for October 5th. Please see the schedule below for registration times. Registration Schedule *Freshmen: 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.Sophomores: 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.Juniors: 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.Seniors: 11:00 – 12:00 noon

* Football players and those students involved in football practice will register from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

We will hold an orientation for freshmen and new students, along with their parents, in the auditorium beginning at 5:00 pm. This is a very important meeting and we strongly encourage your attendance. We will share our expectations and procedural information with you and we welcome your input, comments and questions.

Another upcoming event at Mason High School is for seniors and their parents. College Night will be Wednesday, August 29th at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria. Senior students will receive their college handbooks, along with a couple of other tools that will make the college application process easier. We will go through the handbooks and discuss planning for life after high school. Important topics will include resume writing, essay writing and college & scholarship applications. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Mason High School is going to a traditional schedule. There are valid pros and cons in both the traditional and block schedule. In this case, we believe that the pros of going to a traditional schedule will provide the best educational environment for our students. Recent STAAR EOC results, instruction on a daily basis, more class time (17 1/2 more minutes per week), recovery from an absence, majority of the staff’s feedback , shorter classes are compatible with the attention spans of most students, and many of our students are involved in multiple extracurricular activities during the spring time (just before state testing).

School will start at 7:55 instead of 8:00. We would have moved our tutorial period to after 1st period regardless of a schedule change. A benefit for this change would allow us to serve a quick breakfast at the High School during the tutorial period. Students will be allowed to take the breakfast to their tutorial class if assigned. Please feel free to visit with me anytime about this decision or anything else. The school number that I can be reached at is 347-1122 x 223, my cell number is 347-4663.
