The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, August 21st, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 36 members and two visitors in attendance.

Lion Gaylond Thorn was responsible for the program and "Boss" Lion Pat Reardon introduced Sheriff Buster Nixon who spoke about the jail, and the things he and his deputies were responding to in the county.Sheriff Nixon said the jail was over 100 years old; but, it was still passing inspection. He also said that just one item found out of compliance would shut the jail down and that a new one would have to be built; bor, the county would have to transfer all prisoners to another jail in the surrounding area. Buster said that his office was staying busy with the usual types of calls and offenses being reported.

He talked about some cattle theft cases that were pending. He answered questions that the club had about various things related to the Law Enforcement Office.

The meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.

The club’s next meeting will be held next Tuesday, August 28th, at noon at Willow Creek Cafe. The program chairman will be Marty Benson.

The Mason Lion’s Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
