Daughters of Republic Present Scholarship

Valedictorian Suzanna Marie Ewert, 2012 graduate of Brady High School, recently accepted a scholarship from The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Heart of Texas Chapter. Making the presentation were Chapter President Sheila Van Zant and DRT Member Melanie King. Beaming alongside were her parents, Max and Cathy Ewert. Suzanna plans to attend the University of Texas in Austin, majoring in Anthropology and Plan II.

The 2011scholarship given by DRT was a gift from Frank and Melanie King. The 2012 scholarship is open to students seeking higher education in trade schools as well as colleges and universities. The Kings have donated a whitetail deer hunt at the “Big Buck Ranch” with all funds going toward the scholarship. The hunt will be a management hunt – up to 135 BC – with only 25 tickets available.

The drawing for the hunt will take place September 1, at the World Champion B-B-Q Goat Cook-Off. A few tickets are still available at $100 each. They can also be purchased at the DRT table at the Goat Cook-Off or by contacting Sheila Van Zant at 325-344-5423.
