The Mason Lion’s Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.

The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, August 28th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 36 members and five visitors in attendance.

Lion Marty Benson was responsible for the program and he spoke about the work they do at the sand mine where he works.

Marty explained how they blasted the sandstone to get it out of the ground, and then crushed, washed and sized the sand. He said that about 80% of the material is waste and goes back into the quarry it was dug from.

Marty took questions from the club about the process and the business of mining sand. This was a very informative program.

The club’s next meeting will be held next Tuesday, September 4th, at noon at Willow Creek Cafe. The program will be the monthly business meeting.
