The Mason Punchers will host the Bobcats of Comfort this Friday at home in the Puncher Dome with a 7:30 p.m. start.

The showing last week in the decisive, late victory over a fine team from Goldthwaite allowed us, the fans, to get answers to some of the questions that needed to be answered about this team.

This team consists of a few key seniors, a lot of juniors, some sophomores and a starting freshman that out fought a fine team from Goldthwaite and came home with a victory. The first game at home was kind of ho-hum with not too much excitement in the crowded stadium even though we ran over and dominated what we thought would be a pretty talented team from Winters.

Move forward to Goldthwaite and the crowd was still fairly quiet, trying to get a feeling for this team. When Goldthwaite scored mid third quarter we thought the game could be in jeopardy. That’s when this TEAM stepped up and fought their way into the hearts of the fans. The team's focus and execution became precise on both sides of the ball with offense clicking on all cylinders and our defense digging in.

Here is what I believe this team possesses. Although some may disagree with me this team is an extremely fast team with playmakers all in the key positions. Our running backs, fullbacks and receivers are extremely fast and highly skilled. I repeat extremely fast. We got to see a small glimpse into the future with our receivers getting open deep and a more than capable QB that could deliver the long ball or short ball on the money. We also know that once any of our offensive weapons breaks into the open field there is a pretty good chance they will take it to the house. Throw in a sure handed tight end and all the pieces are in place. As we hone our skills this team can certainly be a very explosive, score at any point on any play kind of team.

Let’s look at the defense for a bit. Goldthwaite is a team that is going to get yardage pounding the ball against any team they play but go to the point of the game in Goldthwaite game and its 4th and 3 with the game and momentum riding on a single play and the defense shuts it down. That’s when the crowd went crazy and we picked up where we left off last year. Don’t forget, defense wins championships and by the looks of things we are looking pretty good when the chips are all on the table.

The G3 or Generation 3 fat boys’ are starting to show the new speed , size and skill that they possess as well as the toughness in controlling and clearing out the trenches. The Comfort Bobcats will be coming to town this Friday making an attempt to knock us off our undefeated season. Let’s get out there and show this TEAM our support. Go Punchers!
