Jasper was born in Mason County on October 13, 1917, to Miller Green Keith and Ida Cavaness Keith. He was one of nine children. Like many people of that time, Jasper did not receive much formal education as his help was needed on the ranch. In spite of this, Jasper was able to become a successful businessman and rancher due to his natural intelligence and hard work.
As a young man Jasper did a lot of ranch work and also worked with the WPA during the depression. One of their jobs was rebuilding the bridge over the Llano River. They actually raised the bridge by 8 feet using hand jacks! It was also during this time that he started in the trucking business. Eventually Jasper and all of his brothers would have their own trucking companies. They would work together on trucking contracts for road construction and other projects. One of his projects was working on the construction of the Lake Nasworthy Dam at San Angelo. Through the years he taught many family members how to drive and they helped him with his trucking business.
Jasper was full of life and had a great sense of humor. He also never lost his love of ranch work, breaking a horse when he was 80 years old! He did know sadness however as he was preceded in death by three children Jasper W. Keith Jr., Robin Keith and Jackie Love Keith, two wives (the mothers of his children) Loraine Bauer Keith and Beulah Lee Keith and all of his brothers and sisters.
On December 8, 1972, Jasper had the good fortune to marry Ruby Floyd. She took good care of him and by all accounts spoiled him for the next 40 years.
Funeral services for Jasper Keith were held on Saturday, September 29, at 3:00 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Chad Barnett officiating. Interment followed in the Gooch Cemetery.
