Last Saturday’s threat and ensuing downpours failed to daunt the 140+ folks who came to participate in the Lions Club’s 6th Annual Gem of the Hill Country 5 & 10k run/walk and 1-mile fun run. People of all ages attended including 5 year old Derek Renfro and 7 year old Larin Hoksbergen who participated in the 5k run with their families.

The overall 5k (3.1 mile) men’s winner was 50 year old Javier Escobar of Schertz in a record time of 19:17. Javier finished then turned around and ran the 10k (6.2 mile)! The woman’s overall winner was Lori Ann Drazan (25:23). Top male and female Master winners were Alton Hoot (25:17) and Tina Blair (31:08). 10K overall winners were Larry Appleby (39:55) and Stephenville’s Lynn Carroll (51:17). 10K overall Masters winners were Brady’s David Roueche (50:39) and Nancy Cantwell (1:15:05) “I love to run in the rain!” commented Tina Blair. Good for her and good for all the participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event such a success regardless of the elements! Thank you, as always, and hope to see you again next year.
