And we wait for rain. And we pray. And we get promises that Monday evening and Tuesday, we have a chance.

Happy birthday wishes go to Barbara Foster on August 15th, to Annette Ashby who will be 6 years old on August 15th, to Danny Mac Jordan on August 17th, to Susan Ceynowa on August 18th and to Brandy Lewis on August 19th. And special wishes for a great anniversary go to Mark and Barbara Krause, Sam and Maribelle Hoerster, and John D, and Lou Fleming all on August 19th. Get out there and celebrate.

The first week of August was full of beautiful new babies. Kathy Jordan flew to California to see the birth of a new grandchild. Lincoln, a big boy weighing nine pounds even and being 21 inches long was born on August 4th. Lorien and Josh are proud parents and Jackson and Caleigh are loving big brother and sister. Kathy and Wayne are also very happy grandparents.

Another joyful event occurred on August 5th with the birth of twin boys to Barry and Melissa Jordan in Castroville. Barry is the son of Jerald and Vondell Jordan. Kaden Chase weighted 6 pounds, 13 ounces and Kyler Reese weighted 6 pounds, 8 ounces. They were welcomed by sister Kaylee and brother Kammeron. The whole Jordan family rejoiced over this great addition to the group. We thank God for the safe arrival of these gifts.

It was great to have Carolyn Vater back in church and looking well. Florence Blake is doing good recovering at her daughter’s home in San Antonio. Prayers were requested for Dick Pierson’s healing as he undergoes treatment, for Barbara Burl, for World Peace and the Olympic athletes.

Rev. Krause’s sermon for the 13th Sunday After Pentecost come from the Gospel scripture of Matthew 14:22-33. This is the account of Jesus walking on the water.

Put your faith in the Lord and calm down and he will help you. When we step out in faith, the Lord will take care of us. Peter stepped out of the boat in faith, into a sea with great waves, and he did fine until he let the storm distract him. He believed that Jesus would help him walk on the water. The waves caused fear and it is not easy to focus on the fear. The disciples were stressed out by the storm and when Jesus stepped out onto the water, Peter was the only one who, with faith, followed Jesus

We all go through storms in life. Without Jesus, it is difficult to go through the storms. Pray for the help that Jesus will give. Never give up. God may not heal every person, but he does save those that He needs to do His work. The winds calmed after Jesus got back into the boat.

No matter what happen to us, we need to bring Jesus on board to stop the storms in our lives. He will get us through them. Peter was the rock on which Jesus built His church. Peter was not perfect, as we know, but Jesus used him for His plan.

We are called to step out of our comfort zone to serve all who need help no matter who they are. Turn no one away. The risk is worth the price.

Follow Peter’s example and step out into the world.

Read Isaiah 41:10-13 and fear not. The Lord will hold your right hand and help you.
