The Mason Lions club met Tuesday, November 6th, for its monthly business meeting. There were 29 members and four visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were two Mason High School seniors, Kayla Rodriguez and Clara Orta.
"Boss" Lion Pat Reardon was responsible for the program and Secretary/Treasurer Gene Gammill read the minutes and gave the financial report.
The Lions Club will have a Hamburger Lunch on Friday, November 30th on the west side of the Courthouse.
It was reported by 2nd District Vice Governor John Gammill that the Lions Club International had raised 15 million dollars for flu shots to be administered in underprivileged countries, and also $100,000 to help with Hurricane Sandy devastation. He also reported that the Texas Lions Camp was starting a one-week epilepsy camp to be held this summer for children with this condition.
Lion Joel Kuykendall reported that the deer hunt he and his family donated raised $6,000 for the district travel expenses. I'll report the name of the winner of this raffle in a later column.
The club’s next meeting will be held next Tuesday, November 13th, at noon at Willow Creek Cafe. The program chairman will be Will Frey.
The Mason Lion’s Club has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
