DRT Llano Pioneers Chapter Honors Veterans Day
Wednesday, November 14, 2012 • Posted November 14, 2012

The Llano Pioneers Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 12, 2012. The November program was dedicated to honoring Veteran’s Day and remembering and giving special tribute to our Veterans who gave up so much for our country.

The special guest for the program was the very talented young Llano vocalist, 9 year old McKenzie Jones who graced the Chapter and visitors with patriotic songs, and the 4th grade class from the Llano Christian Academy who inspired the audience with a special group song.

McKenzie is the 9 year old daughter of Justin and Robin Watkins Jones and she attends the Llano Christian Academy. She started her young performing career at three years old on stage with “Fabian” at the Dick Clark Theater in Branson, Missouri, and she has been performing ever since. McKenzie has performed with other youth at Fuel and the Buckhorn, sang the National Anthem at basketball games, won third place in the talent competition at District 4H, and in June was asked to sing a Gospel Song at the Rankin Brothers Show in Branson for which she got great reviews. Her voice coach is Mrs. Dana Wright and during Thanksgiving McKenzie will be returning to Branson where she will be learning stage performance techniques from the award winning singer from the Haygood Family, Cansandre Haygood, “Voice of an Angel”. McKenzie loves to sing and the DRT Llano Pioneers Chapter was honored to have her and her class perform for the Veteran’s Day program. The program can be viewed on Facebook at .

The DRT Llano Pioneers Chapter would like to thank Alice Smith, Principal of the Llano Christian Academy and Harriet Myrick the Music and Art Teacher who arranged for McKenzie and the 4th Grade Class to participate in the Llano Pioneers Chapter Veteran’s Day program, and to Dana Wright, McKenzie’s Voice Coach for taking time to come and accompany her on the keyboard.

The Llano Pioneers Chapter of the DRT meets the 2rd Monday of each month at 10 a.m. in the Llano County Library in Llano and visitors are always welcome. Anyone who is qualified to join the DRT or has any questions may contact President/Registrar Arlene Garey 830-598-7700 or Vice President/Secretary Patty Pfister 325-247-5024.
