Dear Community of Mason,

Last week my sister and I left my place near Loyal Valley hauling two horses on our way to Palo Duro Canyon for a week of camping and riding. Just outside Mason next to Grit Cemetery, I had a terrible accident with the trailer. My horse fell out of the back of the trailer when she spooked, broke her halter tie, and pushed open the back gate of the trailer. I had not properly latched the safety chain. Everyone who passed us stopped to offer help and brought us kind and loving words. The first person who stopped was Jan Little. She had a gun and kindly put my beautiful, but horribly injured, horse down. In the midst of this awful accident, people were so kind to me to my sister and to my horse. Jan sent us home to unload and recuperate while she contacted people to help with the horse. Special thanks to the highway road crew and to the nearby rancher Ron Croker for their gracious assistance.

The kindness of Jan (who I’ve re-named Angel Jan Little) and all the Mason folks who gave us kind words, advice, and help was amazing.

I am blessed to be among such a warm and loving community.

Thank you all so much.

Holly Noelke,

House Mountain Road,

Loyal Valley.
