Mason Country Music Festival
Wednesday, August 13, 2008 • Posted August 13, 2008

The first annual Mason Country Music Festival will be held on Labor Day weekend, Saturday, August 30th. If all goes well we hope to include the event every year at this time since Mason does not offer a large event for Labor Day weekend. The festival is presented by KNEL Radio featuring Mack Abernathy. Other entertainment includes Jody Nix, TresDillos and Kenny Zink.

The show will be held from 7:30 p.m. – midnight at the Ft. Mason City Park Dance Slab. Tickets are $10.00 each and children 10 & under will be admitted free. Tickets will go on sale Friday, August 8th at the Mason Chamber of Commerce. You may bring your own cooler to the dance but glass is prohibited.

China Springs native, singer/songwriter Mack Abernathy went full time into the country music business in 1987 after taking a buyout from the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1989, he released his first album, “Different Situations”, gaining him two Billboard chart songs – “Different Situations” and “Slippin’ Around”. Abernathy entertains with a natural “good ol’ boy” style that he puts into his music and performances with the creation of a Texas beat that cowboys, lawyers, and even bikers have tapped their feet to.

The new album “Fire on the Line” was released by Hombre Records in 2007. During the promotional tour for the album a family health problem cut the tour short. In May of this year Mack and his band hit the road again and we look forward to seeing them perform here in Mason.

Jessie Abernathy, Mack’s wife, was recently in Mason and visited with several business owners and individuals. Several local people have signed on to sponsor the music festival including Country Home Health, Hill Country Inn, First Mason Title, A “Vision” Taxidermy, Mason Chamber of Commerce, First State Bank, The Mason Jar, Tim & Helen Dockal, Lone Star Storage, Cooper’s BBQ, Mason National Bank, Moore’s Automotive, and The Commercial Bank.
