Annual EMS Fundraiser Runs Until the 14th
Wednesday, December 5, 2012 • Posted December 5, 2012

Friday, December 14th, is the deadline for making your donation to the annual Mason County E.M.S. fundraiser: “Operation Christmas Greeting”. A full-page “Community Greeting Card”, with an alphabetical listing of all contributors, will be in this paper’s Christmas edition on December 19th.

The “Greeting’s” goal each year is to provide funds for needed equipment for our local E.M.S. Association. Mason has a very small staff and they are extremely grateful for their volunteers. Providing equipment that can better help them in their work to save lives is the reason this fundraiser exists. With three (3) ambulances to have ready for any emergency, these funds are highly valued. As stated last week, this year funds will be applied toward Extrication Equipment. Extrication procedures used by the EMS personnel/volunteers to move patients out of ‘tight spots’ when there is concern over spine or neck injuries requires the use of stabilizing equipment, such as different kinds of ‘boards’ – i.e. slide boards. Another item that is needed is a Power Lift to help raise cots into the ambulance.

If you have not yet made your donation, please, fill out a coupon (use the one located in this week’s paper or pick one up at your bank), printing your listing(s) exactly as you wish it or them to appear on the “Greeting”. Deposit your check - made payable to “Operation Christmas Greeting” and marked “Donation-EMS” - with your coupon attached at any of Mason’s three banks. You may also mail it to the bank of your choice: Address your envelope to: “Operation Christmas Greeting”, the name of the bank (First State Bank, Mason National Bank or The Commercial Bank), Mason, TX 76856.

Residents, hunters and visitors recognize that Mason County is a very rural area and medical help can be many minutes away. The EMS is “the first help on sight” in situations that can often be life-threatening. Helping these responders to be the best equipped possible is a win-win situation.

Say “Merry Christmas” to all of the readers of this newspaper and donate to a “life-saving” association. We ask for your support. Thank You!
