Congratulations 2012 Mason Punchers
Wednesday, December 12, 2012 • Posted December 12, 2012

The 2012 Mason Puncher season came to an end last Friday with a loss against a fine team from Shiner. The game was an all out war with Shiner capitalizing on just two big plays and some timely breaks to win against our boys.

We sat in the stands just not wanting or willing to accept the fact that we could lose and had high expectations that somehow, some way, we would pull out the win but it just was not in the cards for this team and these kids.

Let’s look back for a moment and admire what this team did accomplish. Previous to the game against Shiner we had the Number #2 ranked offense in points scored as well as the number #3 defense in points allowed out of 76 teams in class 1a division 1 and that just about says all I need to know about this team. This team fielded FIVE senior’s that started, 3 offensively and 2 defensively and you just don’t get very far down the road without a big group of seniors. This group of 5 gave it all they had along with the rest of the team and for that I am thankful. They cried, we cried but at the end of the day the ones that were fortunate enough to play for the last three years they leave with a win loss record of 39 wins and just 3 losses and the last 2 years 27 wins with only 1 loss. I just don’t think it gets any better than that anywhere in the state of Texas in any classification so that is another legacy to leave behind.

At the end of the game with the Comanche’s singing, shouting and celebrating I could not help but to go back to the Goldthwaite game in 2010 in our loss at Marble Falls. It was the same atmosphere and the same time 3 years ago. We all watched Goldthwaite celebrating after our loss and somehow it drove the 2011 team to greatness and a State Championship. Where will the loss against the Comanche’s take us with the 2013 TEAM? That question along with some others will be answered on August 7th at 10 a.m. when we scrimmage in Hamilton! Go Punchers!!!
