It seems that after having summer weather for the first week of December we now are experiencing a quick change to winter with a good freeze and several “heavy coat” days. The Punchers gave us a great game last Friday to cap off a fall of good football and many exciting plays and wins. It was truly a great season of sportsmanship and team spirit that could teach everyone in our country a few things about working together to solve the problems in front of us. Thanks to every Puncher player and all of the coaches for a season to remember.
There are a couple of City issues I need to mention for those who rely on our services and pay attention to the activities around town. One is that I have cancelled the regular meeting of the City Commission for December which was scheduled for next Monday. This month there is no significant action that the Commission needs to deal with, and with the extra activities that accompany the Christmas holidays, every meeting seems to conflict with some other activity. There are a few items that will need full discussion and decisions in January, but if you have concerns that need attention right away let the City staff or myself know and we will see to them.
Another City activity that is continuing is the leaf pickup throughout our neighborhoods. With the winds and cold weather this week I suspect that most of the trees will be bare in the next few days and we will continue to drive the leaf suction truck down the residential streets to pick up the piles of leaves that our citizens have raked onto the edge of the streets. If you have leaf piles that you have recently raked or that have been left for a few days, please be patient as we continue to work our way around town. If several days have passed since you raked some leaves into the street right of way and you are concerned that we have already passed you, or if you have bagged your leaves and need us to make a special trip to pick them up, please call the City office at 347-6449 and we will put your address on the list for our crews to get back to.
The rest of the City services are on the regular schedule until the week of Christmas and New Year when there will be some vacation days for the staff and crews and some services, such as garbage pickup, will be on an alternate schedule. We will publish the revised schedules next week, but as always if you have questions or concerns let us know and we will get you the right information or make a special effort to deal with your specific problem. As we all prepare for this Christmas time of family and friends getting together, special holiday meals and gatherings, and a time to reflect on the many blessing and gifts we have received as we live and work in this free country and this blessed community, I hope you enjoy all of the excitement of the preparations and take some time to remember and celebrate the very special birthday that makes Christmas a highlight of each year.
Your friend and neighbor, Brent Hinckley
