The Puncherdome was all a buzz this past weekend as our MHS Punchers hosted a preseason scrimmage against the Braves of Ozona. With over 500 people in attendance you would have thought it was a Friday night. The Punchers who have been receiving quite a bit of hype during the preseason lived up to their marquee billing by dismantling a very talented Ozona team.
It only took about 20 minutes for all to realize that Jared Hudson will be carrying the mail for us this year as he ran for not one, not two, but three touchdowns. A large part of his success was due to the fact that our offensive line was opening holes so big that Jared could have driven the family tractor through them.
Quarterback Justin Yonker, who can throw the ball a country mile, hooked up with Garrett Rice on a 27 yard touchdown pass that electrified the Mason faithful.
Stephen Marquez then capped off the day by rolling out and throwing a 7yard strike to A.J. Martinez. The five touchdown blitz was about as impressive as it gets.
Our defense was equally impressive as they held Ozona to one touchdown and only two first downs. Three new defensive linemen; Zack Hudson, Omar Martinez and Jeremy Hamilton looked strong in the trenches as they joined eight returning defensive starters.
The Punchers will head to Blanco on Thursday, August 21st to participate in their final preseason scrimmage before they open up against the Braves of Iraan.
The start times have been changed to the following: JV @ 6:00 p.m., and the Varsity @7:30 p.m.
