Wednesday, August 27, 2008 • Posted August 27, 2008

September is “Library Card Sign-Up” month and the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library would like to invite anyone who doesn’t have a library card to come by the library and get one. The process is very simple - just fill out a short form and a few minutes later you are ready to check out books, movies, audio books, and magazines. Any Texas resident may get a library card at no charge. Non-Texas residents may get a temporary six-month library card for a fee of $30.

NEW ARRIVALS - Quotes are from the cover or summary.

The Size of the World by Joan Silber (F SIL). Fiction. “... set in Vietnam, Thailand, Mexico, Sicily, and America - about men and women who leave familiar surroundings for foreign landscapes. Their encounters - jolting, unexpected - force them to realize how many ‘riffs there are to being human.’ Travelers, colonials, immigrants, and returned ex-pats meet or pass each other in a narrative spanning lifetimes.”

The Mercedes Coffin by Faye Kellerman (F KEL Dec.17). Mystery Fiction. “A cold case turns red hot, threatening to consume everyone it touches - including L.A.P.D. detective Peter Decker and his wife, Rina Lazarus.”

Devil Bones by Kathy Reichs (F REI Bre.11). Mystery Fiction. “When a plumber discovers the remains of a murdered girl and various dark religious objects in the cellar of a client’s house, Temperance Brennan is called in to investigate the case.”
