The Goldthwaite Eagles had their hands full Thursday night when they took on the Punchers. It was a battle royal from start to finish.

The Punchers jumped out in front on their second drive. Running backs Emilio Palacio and Raul Silguero along with QB Elliot Bibb picked up valuable yardage behind the blocking of offensive linemen Hector Medina, Odie Ortiz, Drigo Martinez, and Nicholas Dyer. The home boys scored first when Palacio broke free from several Eagle tackles and made a nice 49 yard run for the score. The PAT failed but Mason led 6-0.

In the 2nd period the Eagles scored on a trap play but failed to add the point after and the score was tied at half 6-6.

The Punchers roared back in the 3rd period by playing some great defense. Defensive stand-outs were: Jason Berreles, Michael Hanscheck, Price Ruffin, Elliot Bibb, and Cody Wood.

With 3:28 remaining in the 3rd period, Raul Silguero broke two tackles and scored from the Eagle 45 yard line. The PAT was unsuccessful but the Punchers were out in front again 12-6

In the 4th period, Goldthwaite scored from the Mason 37 yard line and topped it off with the game winning PAT. 12-14.

“Fun game to watch and I think we learned a lot in this contest. Our guys are slowly putting the pieces together on how to play this game.”

Next week the 7th grade will host the boys from Harper. Kickoff 5:00 p.m.
