Juan Libar Flores

Juan Libar Flores, of Mason, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at the age of 75.

Juan was born on December 17, 1932, to Juan Herrera and Maria Libar Herrera in Runge, Texas. He grew up in Runge and Plains, doing farm and ranch work and taking care of himself from a young age after the death of his mother.

Juan married Juanita Rodriguez on April 4, 1969, and together they raised 16 children, including three grandchildren that they raised as their own. They moved to Mason in 1982 where Juan continued to do farm and ranch work. Juan loved to spend time with his family and they often travelled to visit relatives in other towns. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with his children and grandchildren, often playing and talking late into the night when they came to visit. He loved his family and his 55 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 43 great-great-grandchildren meant the world to him.

Juan is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Juanita Flores of Mason; six daughters: Mary and Odi Ortiz , Josie and Jamie Martinez and Seante Flores all of Mason, Janie and Jesus Munoz of Ohio, Juanita and Michael Garcia of Michigan and Rita and Joe Diaz of Plains; and nine sons: Billy Longoria of Mason, Chris Rodriguez of Mason, Gilbert and Martha Longoria of Dallas, Larry and Debbie Longoria of Plains, Lee Roy and Sulema Longoria of Brady, Margarito and Annette Longoria of Brady, Jimmy and Linda Longoria of Plains, Benito and Martha Longoria of Brownfield and Pete and Janie Flores of Santa Rosa. He is also survived by two sisters: Raquela Prieto of Austin and Isabel Gamez of Brownfield as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Domingo Flores; two sisters: Antonia Flores and Lupe Flores; and one son, Mike Garcia.

Funeral services for Juan Flores will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Mason with interment following at Crosby Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Mason Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
