Each week I try to do my homework and give you a snapshot of our next opponent. As I sit in front of my computer this week I find myself perplexed. I simply do not know what to make of the Menard Yellow Jackets and view them as an enigma. They have been beating up on everybody, but are they for real?
The San Angleo Standard Times has Menard ranked third in the West Texas rankings, however, the preseason polls have Menard finishing last in our district. They are currentlly 4-0 and are creeping up in the state wide rankings, but have they really played anybody? The answer may fall directly on the shoulders of their running back John Zamora who has been receiving quite a bit of hype as of late. Is Zamora truely all that or have the Yellow Jackets been digesting kryptonite between classes?
After a little research I have decided it is the Zamora factor. I believe the Menard Yellow Jackets fifteen minutes of fame is directly related to the phenomenal play of junior running back John Zamora ( 5’9" 160LBS 4.5 ) He is currently rushing for more then 160 yards per game and will absolutely make you hold your breath everytime he touches the ball. I had a chance to watch some film of him this weekend and the young man can flat out fly! He has the abiltiy to be a game breaker everytime he touches the ball and has already done so on numerous ocassions this season.
Can one player actually carry a team? I do not think so. If you stop him and we will, the Yellow Jackets are dead in the water. They simply do not have what the Punchers bring to the party in the trenches and other phases of the game. To win at this level you must be mutidimensional with an arsenal of weapons. I view Menard as a one dimensional team with one cruise missle. If the Yellow Jackets are going to try to hang with the Punchers they will have to go to the outside or over the top. They will find nothing in the middle where guys like Ake, Nash Hudson, Martinez and Hamilton make their living.
With all that said let me remind you that Menard almost beat us last year and it took a touchdown in the last 15 seconds to prevail. Anybody can win on any given Friday night especially during district play. So lets come prepared to back our boys and stick it to the Yellow Jackets!
Friday nights contest will take place at the Puncherdome with a start time of 7:30 p.m. There is always a heightened sense of excitment when district play begins. Youmust win at least four games to advance to the play-offs, so every snap, run, pass, penalty and tackle is crucial. It’s show time in Texas, LET DISRTICT PLAY BEGIN!!
