The Mason Bluebonnet Study Club is sponsoring a shelter shower to benefit The Haven on October 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mason County Library Stribling Room. The Haven is a shelter for victims of domestic violence and abuse serving Mason, McCulloch and Menard Counties. Funding for this shelter comes from grants and donations.

Since most victims seeking help come with only the clothes on their backs, there is a great need for food items, personal items, bedding, etc. Each year, members of the Bluebonnet Study Club collect these needed supplies and donate them. Members of the community help out in this effort and may either give the items to any member of the club who will bring them to the meeting, or community members may attend the meeting and bring the items themselves. A representative of The Haven will speak at the meeting to explain what they do and update statistics for those who have heard about the shelter before.

Following is a list of needed items: sugar, salt, pepper, seasonings, gravy packets, cooking oil, milk, juice, tea,.bread, cereal, canned meats and pastas, soups and stews, canned fruits and vegetables, frozen meals, diapers size 2, 3, 4, baby wipes, baby Tylenol, Mylocon, Desitine Ointment, baby powder, baby oil, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, paper towels, toilet paper, heavy 33 gallon trash bags, tampons, sanitary napkins, hair brushes, shampoo, conditioners, soap, deoderant, q-tips, cotton balls, make-up (samples are great), cosmetic bags, blow dryers, and curling irons.

Store gift cards are gladly accepted so items not donated can be purchased.

In addition, new or used in good condition other needs are: pillows, pillow cases, blankets, sheets, comforters, bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, dish cloths and towels, sponges, bath mats, rugs, area rugs, food storage containers, wall clocks, alarm clocks, irons, lamps, trash cans, table cloths, place mats, dishes, glasses, silverware, cookware, pots and pans, cookie sheets, cake pans, small electric appliances, suit cases or carry on bags, radios, clothes, shoes, hangers, and furniture.

Mary Hemphill is president of the club. Members are Edna Earle Benton, Maudi Bergmann, Mary Carlman, Adrianna Eckert, Julie Harrison, Carol Jordan, Tanya Lamoreaux, Tommie Luckenbach, Mary Ellen Merkel, Betty Meyer, Brinda Pape, Julia Pepper, Johnni Rossing, and Kristy Powell. Any one of them will gladly accept your donation and deliver it for you. Guests and prospective members are invited to the meeting.

The Mason Bluebonnet Study Club is a member of the Alamo District of Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs, a part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs headquartered in Washington, DC.
