The Punchers took on the visiting Eldorado Eagles this past Thursday in the Puncher Dome. The Eagles pounded the ball down the field on three different occasions during the 1st half of play but the home boys turned them back time and time again. Great defensive play was noted by: Dale Cunningham, Tanner Dutton, Matt Clark, Eric Martinez, Kolby Yonker, and Austin Eckert. The Eagles finally scored just before half time on a 17 yard sprint then tacked on the PAT leaving the Punchers behind 0-8.

Both teams pounded on each other during the 3rd period, and the Mason boys made several good plays during this period. Emilio Palacio and Raul Silguero each picked off the Eagle QB for considerable gains. The Punchers took advantage of one of these turnovers and marched the ball down the field to the Eagle 4 yard-line. QB Dale Cunningham then connected with Zane Graves on a bootleg play and Graves barreled the ball over the line for the score. The point after failed, making the score 6-8.

Each team battled throughout the final period but were unable to score. I can’t say enough about how well our guys played. Our offensive linemen did a great job opening running lanes for our backs. Linemen included: Brandon McGowan, Kolby Yonker, Eric Martinez, Kolten Bankston, and Austin Eckert. Running back included: Rio Schmidt, Zane Graves, Emilio Palacio, Raul Silguero, and Dale Cunningham.

Next week the 8th grade will travel to Christoval for a 5:00 kick-off.
